The Art Of Story
Interactive installation including animation and coding.
The art of much-loved children’s stories came to life at The Public in summer of 2011. The video above demonstrates users interacting with the work.
Sandwell school children worked with local artists to produce the works based on the books by Ahlberg, who worked as a school teacher in Oldbury, and his wife, Janet Ahlberg.
The artists involved in the project, Emma Purshouse, Johnny O’Hanlon, Claude Chambers, Sakab Bashir, John Flitcroft, Heather Wastie and Jonathan Lee used poetry, images and film to celebrate the young talent from the region, using the work of the famous author as inspiration.
Much of Ahlberg’s work centred around his childhood experiences in 1950s Oldbury.
The project includes workshops and activities, encouraging the community to get creative by illustrating their own stories.
The Art of Story was presented at The Public from 6 July until 18 September 2011.
